We offer Covid-19 testing – PCR or RAT – by appointment only at certain times and days, depending on demand. Covid- 19 testing is normally free to ALL patients, except for private oversea travel purposes.

Laboratory Test Collections

For a small fee, we can take blood tests samples while your are at the clinic – saving the time, hassle and the wait when visiting Labtests collection centres. Just enquire at reception.

Pre-Travel Covid-19 Testing

We can assist with stressful pre-travel Covid-19 testing (RAT, PCR and blood) increasingly required pre departure.  Please enquire – telephone 09 4772090 or email at reception@hzmedical.co.nz for procedures and a competitive pricing. There are significant discounts for groups or family members travelling together. The testing/result time window may need out of hours testing and follow-up, so requests and pricing are individualized. However, we have the flexibility to accommodate most travellers. Ideally email us details of the flight number and departure times and also when the test result is needed. See more on the Covid-19 page

Repeat Prescriptions

The best way to request a repeat prescription is by using the portal ManageMyHealth. Else email us at nurse@hzmedical.co.nz. Allow 48 hours (2 working days) for turnaround.  if urgent, for same day, please note this in your message. Soon you will be able to order via our online portal.

Skin cancer checks, Mole checks and Full body skin cancer checks

We offer comprehensive Skin cancer checks and Mole checks (Dr Andre George and Dr Rianda De Roe), using the correct dermatoscopy equipment. Early skin cancer and melanoma cannot be reliably identified with the naked eye alone or normal GP torch/lenses – dermatoscopy magnification equipment is essential to avoid missing malignant  lesions and the unnecessary and costly removal of benign lesions

We advise “Full body” skin cancer and mole checks for the initial assessment and those at high risk of melanoma or with previous skin cancer – discuss with Dr George or Dr De Roe . For your comfort and privacy you still keep on underwear or similar sports-wear/swim-wear that you are comfortable with, for these “full-body” checks.

Skin cancer surgical excisions, biopsies and Minor surgery
Dr George and Dr De Roe have special advanced training in skin checks (dermatoscopy) , biopsies and removals/excisions of concerning lesions. However, all our GPs are competent and comfortable with punch biopsies, simple excisions, as well as other minor procedures e.g. removal of skin tags, benign moles for cosmetic purposes and ingrown toenails. Other procedures such as dermapen micro-needling are offered at clinical discretion
Adult and Child Medical Care

Your GP’s surgery is far more than a place to go when you are feeling unwell and needing a quick cure. The doctor seeing you has gone through extensive medical training to equip her/him to help children and adults of all ages with a range of physical and emotional difficulties.

Women' health, Cervical smears and IUCD (Mirena) insertions

We offer Intrauterine Contraceptive Device (IUCD) to prevent pregnancy. The Mirena IUCD is often used to reduce heavy bleeding during periods. This IUCD is funded but there is a charge for the insertion. The Mirena is now preferred by clinicians above contraceptive pill for most women,

Liquid Nitrogen

Liquid nitrogen is a fast, effective treatment to treat viral warts, sun damaged skin, skin tags and many benign cosmetic lesions. It is usually applied by swab or spray. Often one treatment is all that is needed, but sometimes it may need repeating after 3-4 weeks.  The doctor or nurse will explain the risks and benefits of this procedure and what to expect before you have this done . The cost is $15 first lesion, $10 additional lesions, capped to a maximum cost of $45.

Osteo-arthritis and injury/sports joint injection treatments

For osteo-arthitis, sports and ACC injuries , when normal pain medication is not enough and surgery cannot be done yet or at all, we offer a range of Knee and Shoulder treatments. Book an appointment with Dr Andre George or John Mayhew to discuss these options, including:

  • Cortisone injections for short term relief (months) – normally covered by ACC or insurers
  • Durolane or Synovisc “lubication” knee injections for medium term relief (months to years)
  • PRP (Plasma rich platelet) or “Blood” injections for medium to long term relief (months to years).
Medicinal CBD

Medical CBD (cannabinoid) has a place in palliative care, multiple sclerosis, intractable nausea and difficult to control epilepsy. It also may be useful for anxiety, chronic pain and insomnia, and can provide a safe non-addictive alterative to potentially addictive opiate painkillers, sleeping tablets and tranquilisers.  We can also assist in guiding you through the maze of pharmacy ordering and ACC or WINZ approvals.

Minor Accident Care

We can deal with most minor accident care, or refer the more serious ones to the appropriate service. Please note we are an appointment only medical centre and cannot guarantee appointments for walk in patients. For severe injuries e.g. major fractures and plaster casting and after hours care, we  recommend Shorecare Urgent Care clinics, at Smales Farm and Northcross, open every days.

Immunisations

Immunisation is an important service we provide. Immunisation has led to the decline of many lethal infectious diseases e.g. meningococcal B meningitis. The National Immunisation Schedule offers a series of vaccines free to babies, children, adolescents and adults. Additional vaccines are provided free to certain eligible groups considered at high risk due to other medical conditions. Find out and read more here.

Travel Advice and Travel Immunisations

We can offer advice and immunisation if you are travelling to another country, and travel medical packs. Besides the immunisations you need to live in New Zealand, there may be other injections you need to protect yourself and for some countries you may need rabies or malaria protection. Yellow fever vaccinations are only available at approved centres – click here to view centres in the Auckland region.
